Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvigon, Mt. Veeder '19

    Napa Valley

Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvigon, Mt. Veeder '19

The Mayacamas estate is one of Napa’s most singular properties. The sprawling 475-acre estate snakes up from Lokoya Road, hitting elevations of 1,800 to 2,200 feet. The vineyards represent just 50 of the estate’s acres, with different blocks located in different microclimates and soil types. The main soil type of Mayacamas is weathered volcanic rock and ash, helping the vines produce grapes that are more concentrated and convey a stronger impression of the soil.

Mayacamas has always aimed to make wines with balance and the ability to age. From its fermentation techniques to its aging program, the producer makes wines of exceptional quality and that consistently show amazingly well with bottle age.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is made from destemmed fruit that was fermented in concrete (65%) and stainless steel (35%) to dryness. It was aged in large-format foudre (10–45 hectoliters) for 20 months and neutral French oak barrique (228 liters) for 14 months.

“"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon marks a return to a more elegant, polished style following the two powerhouses that are the 2017 and 2018. Silky, aromatic, and beautifully perfumed, the 2019 is majestic from the very first taste. There is plenty of depth and structure, as well as the balance to support decades of very fine drinking. Blood orange, crushed raspberry, mint, and exotic spice nuances linger. Even in the early going, the 2019 is shaping up to be majestic.”  96-99 Points (Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media)
